A big thanks to all student on this board who adviced me earlier.

I need to have an India PCC, I will be going to India anyways by this year. I live in Mumbai, India. Any clue about how this PCC can be obtained?

I understand that Vancover BC has an office that does PCC, Anyone tried it out, and how long does it take.

Do not try to get from PCC from India. You can get it but have to make lot of trip to the Police Station during your india trip.

Better Go to Indian Consulate Web Site ,download form and send form through mail with your passport copy and cover letter.

You will get it with in 1-2 months.

Srinivas,

Since you are going to India - it will be faster to get it yourself. You need to get it from your local Police station (the one for your residential area).

It takes about 4-6 weeks if you apply in U.S. or Canada consulates. They still have to send it to India for verification.

And if you don´t live close to the consulate and are sending your PP by mail, you are stuck with no PP for that 4-6 weeks.

So it is best to get it personally. You don´t have to wait - once you get it India, send it FEDEX to your application post.

Well I guess you got both sides of the coin. Tom thinks different and he may be correct about the trips.

hey Srinivas,

Particularly, Ottawa Indian consulate takes only 2 days to get you the PCC. If you send a pre-paid Xpresspost and the required documents you get it faster than in any place in India.

I am surprised at the way people have commented here. I don´t think it will take 1-2 months if you apply in Canada. Yes, if you apply to the consulate in Toronto, it takes long, but Ottawa takes not more than a week.

I don´t know about others I got it done in 2 days. Only thing you got to confirm from them is whether your area is covered in Ottawa jurisdiction. My view is even if it is not covered, they will get it for you. I am a student in Canada but I tried from Chicago consulate, they said they could do that for me.

I applied for mine in Toronto and I got it in 2 days. The reason I got it so quickly was because my Indian passport was issued in Toronto. If it had been issued in India or in any other country it would have taken over a month to get my PCC. Where is your passport issued? Either way it´s better to do it here than in India.

Hi Srinivas,

We applied for our PCC in Mumbai( very recently - not once but twice ) and it was granted the same day itself.Very importantly can you confirm if yr pasport ( on theback page ) has a computer or file number as the indian passport office calls it.If the file number is present ( which was normally given to passports issued in Mumbai after 1997 )on the passport that means the passport offcie has yr details on the data base and so dont need to send yr file to the local area where you live, which entails a visit to the police staion and endless red tapism.

All you need to do is vsist the passport office in the morning armed with copies of yr birth cerrtifciate, ration card,garduation/hsc certificate, proof of residence from the society where you live ( at times not required ),pay the fees ( along with the required form and 6 sets of photographs ) and the very same afternoon yr PCC is granted.

However if the file number is not on yr passport then it takes at least a mnth or running around to get it done.

Hope this helps...all the best

Thanks a million to everyone for their support to my query.

SP yes I have a passport issued from mumbai, in 1999 and has the file no. on it on the back page.

Same day PCC if in india!!! thats awesome, I am very happy.

Also SP kindly post a detailed overview of the process at mumbai (address etc etc) This will be a great help to me and fellow indian friends on this board.

Also to my Indian friends in the US: When applying for an immigrant, non immigrant or other visa to the US, we need police clearances from places lived in last 5 years. Since I have been only in Canada and india, can anyone advice about how to get canada police clearance for US visa.

Is it just a namecheck from local RCMP? Or its the full fingerprint process sent to ottawaa etc? OR its a certificate given by CPIC?

Thanks in advance and Cheers
