Subject: Is 66 enough to apply? do i need ielts?
  Hi guys,
I have a bachelors and a Masters in csci from usa. I worked 2 full year of pt job (20hrs/week), so it is equivalent to 1 year full time experience. I also worked contract based work for some times and i got a letter from tjat job that i worked 20 hours per week for nine months (they paid only 800 dollars for the entire job and i have copy of the contract and check they paid). Can i use that letter? Do they really check? If i have a letter from any self employed company but no pay check or documents (i.e w2, contract or pay check)can I use that to claim points?
I have exactly 66 oints including english 16 points (i have been in the states for 7 years studying as a F1 student and now doing Ph.D in usa too).
Any help/ suggestion will be appreciated.
Thanks.

You need more than 67 to be elegible.
I would recommend you to increase your points before apply for immigration.

Most likely you will need IELTS.

Since you cannot afford to get anything less than 7 band,
I would suggest to give IELTS ASAP. So that you can get second chance just in case you get below 7 band

Remember you have to wait 120 days for second try.
Good luck.

First, You have to meet the 67 points req. Second these days CIC asks alot of applicants to take the IELTS;it shouldn`t be a problem for you.

I guess your points are
25
10
16 if you get full 7`s in IELTS
15
---
66

You need 1 more point. It`s either you wait to get one more year of experience to get 17 instead of 15 or to get married to a girl with B.Sc to get 4 points from here.

Good Luck and don`t rush ..

Yes, they do check your job history. You´d need that letter (better notarize it and make sure this company is reputable)but not sure how you can get away by not sending a W2.
To add points, I suggest learning french at a basic level. Shouldn´t be too hard.

I suggest you take the ielts, but having said that I suggest you wait till you have got your AOR before taking the test.
IELTS is valid for 2 yrs only and by the way things are going these days, you might have to take 2 ielts tests too just like the medicals.
Anyway, the bottom line is, wait till you can get to 67 (1 yr more) and then apply, then wait for AOR and then give it another 3-4 months and then take the ielts.

I also suggest to learn basic French courses. This will increase your points. They might call for an interview if you are on 67 points

Note to Raj:

CIC´s regs dictate that approved language test results are valid for one year, only.

Note to Cool Dude:

Are you aware that, without arranged employment, you will need a minimum of ~$8,000.00 US of unencumbered and readily transferable funds available to yourself (assuming you do not have any dependants), for the purposes of settlement in Canada? Without either of these, your application will not succeed (further note - please don´t misinterpret my statement as any tform of qualification on your financial status; it´s simply been my experience that students have a difficult time in meeting this criterion).

Yes I can manage the fund of US $ 8000. But if I come back within a month or so to complete my studies can I bring back that money with me to the us?
Thanks guys for all your t=replies.

I don´t know US tax/customs law, but I´m guessing that, like any country, they would be happy to see you come in with $$$. Let´s face it, that´s what it´s all about.;)

But as for how to "import" it, I would suggest that you contact the US authorites to get a definitive answer [in Canada, you simply need to declare any amount greater than $10,000; this is a simple process (in most cases), and can be done at a Port of Entry through customs).
