Hi All,
I have applied for Canada Immigration in Jan 2004. I got an interview in LA for Dec last week. I have a question though. My Daughter is a US Citizen and i dont think i need to apply for her. Since i mentioned her name in the application they sent me the medical forms also for my daughter. Can someone let me know do i need to get medicals done for my daugher or not.

(in reply to: Dependents Immigration) It does not make any difference whether your daughter is a US citizen or not, she needs still get her medicine done.

(in reply to: Dependents Immigration) If she´s moving to canada with you or not...you need to get her medicals done. If she needs to go to canada with you then you need to get her a PR card irrespective of whether she´s a US citizen or not. She cant stay in canada more than 6 months on her US passport.
I m in exactly same boat.

Thx (in reply to: Dependents Immigration) Hi ME and Olek. thanks for the information. So as long as she accompanies us she needs to follow the same process as we parents do. I heard somewhere that if a US citizen is granted a Canadian immigration then the US one gets void or something like that. Anyways thx for the replies.

(in reply to: Dependents Immigration) If you are planning to settle down in Canada then you HAVE to add your child to your existing application - It does not matter if she is a US citizen. Get her medical done and send in the documents needed to add her to your immigration application.
Even if she becomes a Canadian PR she will still be a US citizen and will still carry her US passport. She will have to give up her US citizenship only if she wants to become (and also qualifies to become) a Canadian citizen later on.

(in reply to: Dependents Immigration) I do not think, Kenny you are right about giving up US citizenship. She can be a dual citizen of both the US and Canada.

(in reply to: Dependents Immigration) Sam, you might want to read this about the US and Canada dual citizenships: www.richw.org/dualcit/faq.html

(in reply to: Dependents Immigration) It´s true - dual citizenship for Americans is possible. In fact, I´ve met many during my work as a Canadian Customs Officer...
