Subject: Fund Settlements
  Dear All,

Does anyone know about how much tax will be imposed on the funds transfer from outside Canada after landing? I heard no tax will be imposted for the fund transfer during the first landing. Any properties or assets bring in or transfer in subsequent to the first landing is subject to heavy tax. Is that true? if true, What types of the assets are they?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Nia.

It is true that your "settlement funds" (i.e., the money you bring in to the country upon arrival) are tax free However, I would recommend that you contact CCRA (Canada Customs and Revenue Agency) for further information (or, a Canadian tax accountant), concerning Canada´s (very complex) income tax act - this simply isn´t an issue you are going to find a lot of truly accurate answers on here, I suspect.

Regards,
Dennis
