Subject: US: Law enforcement records - from where? |
I´m marrying in October and will be applying for PR from within Canada.
What law enforcement records do I need? I´ve seen people mention the FBI. Do I need to get one through them? What about city, county, state departments? One from each??
Thanks!

(in reply to: US: Law enforcement records - from where?) Follow the above link, or otherwise. YOu need to request Fingerprint cards from the FBI, they will be mailed to you. Then you have to go to the police station, pay a small fee for the service, and have them fingerprint you on the cards. Then, you mail the cards and certified check/ bank draft to the FBI address and they will eventually mail them back to you.

(in reply to: US: Law enforcement records - from where?) This is actually my question too... any idea how long does it take for FBI to mail you the clearance stuff?
Thanks!

(in reply to: US: Law enforcement records - from where?) The FBI site (I think) says something like 6-8 weeks to get the final paperwork (after you send in the fingerprints).
I keep forgetting to bookmark it, but you can go to the web site of the division of the FBI - criminal justice division? - by going to their site map and finding it there. That gave me a few more answers.
