How about working in Prince George, please share your opinions, buddies!!!

1. Is it a kind of isolated because of diatance?
2. Is it hard to change a job to other cities from Prince George?
3. work in Prince George with a decent company, or work in big city like Toronto, Vancouver with a small company?

Any inputs are highly appreciative!

1, no, we used to think Prince George is remote North, not right now, city is booming, actually I just came back from there. They have big boxes, nice residents. Distance?, more than 500KM hwy from Whiliams Lake, which is remote, tons of dear.

2. depend on your jobs.
3, seriously, if you can find a stable job over there, highly recommend you to go there.think like this, starter from Vancouver, can never afford a house, not in Prince Geroge. Vancouver, too much competition.
It´s not such cold, dude, it´s B.C not winterpeg.

Thank you very much, DB. And more questions for your opinions.

1. Regarding Q2 above, how about a job of accountant?
2. What most concerns us is my kid´s education. How about teh quality of education there? Is there a drug problem there?

Thanks again!

PG is a fiercly proud small city. Lots of outdoor sports such as hunting and fishing. Hockey. It has a very new university that is breathing life into the community.

PG was heavily dependent on forestry but is beginning to diversify. Some people love it, some people say it is too small for them. The winters are cold. It is a 1.5 hour flight to Vancouver. You would not want to drive it in the winter months. It is smack in the centre of the province. The downtown is economically struggling, but the suburbs are doing well. Not the best city planning. The Mayor is a hoot.

about your question #2 - schools are fine. the trick to life in a city like PG is involving your kids in community activities. Drugs? like every Canadian city.

do not make that assumption. I am suggesting there is great opportunity there that is still to happen. I am not sure I would want to arrive there without any pre-employment exploration, but that is just me.

They plan to build a huge container ship port over Prince Rupert, PG might benefit

Thanks all of your valuable suggestions.

If I am thinking of only myself, I will definitely take this job (I´ve got the offer already). But I have a family and should not leave them behind.

Really, our new immigrants have to go through so many things to build a totally new life in a totally new contry. Be brave, patient, and well prepared, everything will be getting better and better.

Thank you all buddies. i benifit a lot from you guys in this forum.

you are fortunate. your skills are portable and will fit in to many situations. If you are not satisfied, I am sure you will be able to find something more suitable to you.
