Subject: Applying as SW being a Temporary Worker
Hi everyone, I just discovered this forum and I think is great, I applied for a work permit visa from Mexico, once I go to Canada can I apply for PR from Mexico, I heard that the process can take just about 4 or 6 months if you have a job offer from a Canadian company, and there´s no need of proof of funds, but what happen if you are in Canada already? can you still apply from your country? I don´t know if I explained that well, I hope so. Thank you guys for you time.
Regards
Javier

u have ur choice to apply from ur country of citizenship OR the country that serves any country where u have been legally admitted there for a period of at least one year...if mexico is faster than buffalo, go for it

Hi Javier,

I am from Mexico as well and have been debating on where to send the federal application. In my case, I´m in Quebec and have already received the CSQ, and have a job as well (I´m under a work permit on the meantime). According to processing times listed on the web, it seems that Mexico is a bit faster... however they request that you send the Canadian background check (which you will need if you are living in Canada), with your initial application. I believe this check might take a while (With Buffalo, they say to wait on the Canadian fingerprints until advised, so I am hoping that either it is ´waived´, or asking for it to be sent to Buffalo might be faster ------ ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS ANYONE???

In Mexico, I believe you need to send original documents... if you send copies it will be pretty sure that you´ll have to make a trip some time or another to show the originals. In Buffalo, you can send copies... and in case they want originals... the trip is not as far.

I´m still debating, but I think I´ll try it through Buffalo. I know of someone who was in my similar case recently, and got a 6 months turnaround from there anyway. I´ll hope for the same...

suerte

... and one may need to consider also delays in mail the embassy may send from Mexico...

I think it might be a coin-toss

JCR:

send a local canadian police clearance and a copy of the RCMP fingerprint form with a note that the fingerprints results will be sent to the embassy as soon as you receive it back from the RCMP (2-5 months). As for the docs, they reuqire copies only (except for police clearances). Should they require originals, they may be sent by courrier and at worst, should you require an interview, you will have the bring the originals with you.

Shannon... thanks for the tip...

do you know if I can send it to Mexico even if the CSQ indicates Buffalo as the office to process the application? (it says that I guess because I´m in Canada)

ya, you can send it to Mexico, but if you already have your CSQ, it is very quick from either office. One family had their CSQs and sent the file to buffalo and had their visas within 6 months (including the 5 month delay to get a police clearance from one of the countries they lived in) You dont even require many docs as a Quebec applicant either because federal is only assessing you for medical suitability and verifying that you dont have a criminal record.

Hola Paisano (in reply to: Applying as SW being a Temporary Worker)
I´m glad to find somebody from Mexico here, I´m still here waiting for the letter, my wife would send all the documents to the embassy. A
bout that Canadian background check, where do you get it? do you need it if you have been in Canada less than 6 months?
I´ll do the language test as soon as I arrive to Canada and sent that to Mexico. Have you have trouble using express mail or dhl or fedex? My idea was to send the passport that way once they need it. What do you think? If you have any other comments feel free to let me know.

fingerprints are done through a fingerprinting service, i only know where it is in ottawa...check with local pd, but you dont need one if you have not been here 6 months.

why would you do the lang test?? they dont reqire it for a Quebec application!!!!

I send the ppts by fedex or xpresspost weekly with no troubles. Make sure to have a return courrier envelope or they will return ur ppt by regular mail....i mean they put it in an envelope, stick a stamp on it and throw it in a mailbox!!!!!!!!!
