Subject: how i can sponsor my new born
  Hi,
My family (myself, husband and a son) migrated from india to Canada in August 2004 and are presently PR card holders. Due to some compelling personal problems we had to return to india after two months. During our around years stay in india, God has gifted us with a daughter. She was born in india.
Now, I like to return to Canada permanently with my family. I understand, I have to sponsor my infant daughter, to travel with us back to Canada.
I would highly appreciate if you could guide me on my following Questions

1. Can I send sponsorship application-forms to my sister in Canada, to submit them on my behalf. Once the process is completed, return to Canada with my complete family. Is it compulsory for me to be physically be in Canada to sponsor my infant daughter. If being in Canada is mandatory then Can I get the visit visa for my infant daughter and return to Canada, and in Canada process sponsorship for my daughter.

2. Is there any minimum funds limit to sponsor my daughter. I have around US $14,000/= (fourteen thousand) in my bank account in Canada. Will the bank-statement of said amount suffice the minimum requirement or do I have to transfer more fund from india to meet the minimum fund criterion. Or I have to provide proof of earnings in Canada to sponsor my infant.

3. How long will it take to complete the formalities of sponsorship and the visa is issued to by infant daughter (after forms are submitted). I am more concerned if I have to come to Canada. leaving my infant behind in india

Please seek a professional advise. Whatever you do, don´t leave your infant behind...nothing or no country is worth that much.

The information below was on the settlement.org website. It was posted there July 29th. This should give you some guidance on applying for your daughter.

Hello all,

This post is our experience in bringing our infant daughter, who was born out of Canada, to Canada.

My wife and myself became PRs in 2002 and left Canada after a short stay. We have just moved back to Toronto after spending time in Dubai, the UAE, during which our daughter was born.

As a PR cannot apply to sponsor a child while residing out of Canada, we had to apply for a visa for our daughter to enter Canada.

We had to provide the following to the Canadian Embassy in Abu Dhabi:

1/. Proof of dispatch of personal effects to Canada.

2/. Cancellation of my daughter?s, my wife?s and my own UAE residence visas.

3/. Purchase of one-way tickets to Toronto.

4/. Proof that my wife and myself fulfilled the residency obligation for a PR on the date of our intended return to Canada.

Only then did the Canadian Embassy, Abu Dhabi issue a ?Temporary Resident Permit? (as opposed to a Temporary Resident Visa for short-term visitors).

This visa which they also variously referred to as a ?Minister?s Permit? and a ?Travel Document?, was issued for the specific purpose of further applying for a permanent resident visa for my daughter once all three of us had resumed residence in Canada.

I hope this information is of use of those in a similar situation

Regards - RCM
