I am curious, once you have sent out your application for spouse sponsoring (from US to Canada), does it take 5-6 months for first step of approval?

I just want to know if the CIC website is accurate, or if this takes longer most of the time, saying that all the documents were sent properly.

Since you are looking to apply for permanent residence, part of the process is to get a full medical exam. I took my exam last July and it took until Dec to get approved. So that was a fully 5 months waiting there.

I haven´t gone through this process yet but am looking into it myself..

I´m pretty sure that the CIC website is fairly accurate in their processing times of "In-Canada" PR applications. If the website says it´s currently taking 5-6 months for Vegreville to issue approval in principle (i.e - first step of approval), then I´d be inclined to believe that time frame is correct.

I can´t say for 100% whether or not this is true though, as when I was sponsored by my husband (I´m a U.S citizen, he´s Canadian) I applied "Outside Canada". My PR application was sent to Buffalo for processing once the Mississauga CIC approved my husband as a sponsor.
