Im just wondering if there are any difficulties in starting a small business after receiving a PR (British Columbia in particular).

No, not at all, you know what? I read Vancouver Sun three days ago. Canada is the third simplest country to set up business in pacific areas.

I am not sure about other province, since I live in B.C.
Here is what you should do.

Depend on your business, you might want to decide if you need set up, sole, partnership, or cooperation, then you go to B.C access centre in your city.
Pay 15 dollars for name search, usually finished in 2 business days, which is done in Victoria.

After that, prepare your credit card, do one stop business registration on-line. You can register GST, import/export number, WCB, payroll online at the same time. I help enormous relocated immigrants to do this for free in my office, very simple.

After that, depend on your business; you might have to be required to registered municipal business license, in order to pass fire and city regulation, if you are day-care, restaurant, and dry clean.

Comment, for immigrants, I know it??s hard to find employment, that??s why we should find self-employment if possible. Forget about you are professional in your home country, this is about how to start cash flow ASAP. I know one Korean couple in Nanaimo, used to be college professors, when they arrived in Nanaimo, hard to find a job. They just purchased one dry clean shop, which can??t even balance the book. After three years, they open three-laundry mart in my town, right now, as long as you go to laundry mart, it??s there business. Small town, less competition, you just need work hard. They seem pretty satisfied with what they have.

By the way, self-employ, can write off quite a lot GST/PST and capital gain/lost stuff, you might get better deal when you apply mortgage.

Hopefully, my comment can help you a little bid

I am a Hydrogeologist and have been providing consutancy services to establishments in developing countries. My goal is to establish a consultancy company (with head office) in Canada once I land and then continue to provide these services, mostly to clients outside of Canada. Departure bay, do you foresee any difficulties with this?, Kindly advise!
