Subject: Intend to live in Canada ....
There is an option for place where we intend to live in Canada (City/Town and Province)? Can we put whatever we want there (Example Toronto, Ontario etc.).

I saw that Quebec would be willing to give you additional points for meeting certain specific requirements beyond the general quota. What is that?

Is there any advantages and disadvantages for any particular place?

Thanks in Advance.

Sandy

Quebec has some authority over immigration for immigrants coming into that province.

I think they are asking this, as there is additional and/or different forms to fill out if you are going to immigrate to Quebec.

I think they ask this to make sure that if you are going to Quebec, that you have filled out the correct forms.

I don´t think there is a lick of difference if you put Toronto Onartio, Calgary Alberta, or North Battleford Saskatchewan, but there is a difference if you put Gatineau Quebec.

So if you filled out the forms to go to Quebec and put Toronto as your intended stay, they will ask you to fill out Quebec specific forms...

As far as immigrating to Quebec and moving as soon as you land, I am not sure how they handle that.

Thanks for information Dave.

So if I´ll fill out the forms to go to Quebec as a place to intend to live in Canada, would processing be much faster then any other destination?

Thanks,
Sandy

Sandy: I´m certainly no expert, but I think that Quebec has very strict immigration policies. It´s much more than simply filling out different forms. I would expect that unless you have immediate family there, it would be much more difficult and time consuming to get your processing accepted. It should go without saying that your French, for example, should probably be flawless in order to even think about moving to that province. I assume they want to know that you have qualifying cultural interest in the province, as well, although as I say, I´m no expert.

One thing is for certain, and that is that are no loopholes or shortcuts for immigration. And quite frankly, there shouldn´t be. Rather than trying to figure out where you "should" put down on the application in order to "speed the process", perhaps it´s better to invest your energies in to figuring out where you actually want to live. Have you been to Canada? Read much history, literature, the daily papers? The map? I´m not being cheeky here; it just sounds like lots of people on this board don´t have any idea about the country they are trying to move to. I apologize in advance if it sounds like I´m going off on you; I certainly don´t intend to.

There absolutely are advantages and disadvantages for every region of Canada (as in any country), depending on who you are. You might ask yourself: what do I like? What is important to me? Do I like snow on the ground from October to April, or do I prefer something more moderate? What do I expect from the local economy? Do I like wide open prairie, or the mountains, or the sea? What sort of peoples and cultures am I most comfortable around--a wide variety? Francophones? Acadians? Liberals? Conservatives? Canada is an incredibly wonderful, diverse country (isn´t that why we all want to live there!), more so than probably anywhere on this huge Earth. Take your time with this question; it´s an important one. Sure, you can change your mind, but review it carefully anyway; your deciding your future, and possibly the future of your family.

Good luck!

applying though Quebec is two-step process:
1) you apply to Immigration Qu?bec http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/francais/index.html
(fill the forms, pay an application fee). They probaly will ask you for interview (unless you are from France, for excample). The main thing they pay attention to, is of course your command of French langauge. They even can say that we will approve your application if you will come in 6(or 12) monts and show that you have greatly improved your French. However, I know quite a few people which got through without knowing a single word of French. But, presonally, I would not count for it. In most cases you have to know French enough and show willingness to improve it. Then Quebec issues you certificat de s?lection.

2) you apply to Immigration Canada (you need to pay application, and later the landing fee, too). The things are going faster compared to federal WS applicants, they just do backdround check and medicals.

Basically, the application through Quebec is more expencive (you are paying application fee twice, and you need to know French), but significantly faster (at least for in-Canada/in-Quebec applicants). Also, once landed, you can go anywhere in Canada, there is no restriction...

Sandy, you aksed:

"Is there any advantages and disadvantages for any particular place?"

Is this in regard to life in Canada, or how to get here as fast as possible?

If you plan on Quebec, there are a few things to note. One, their laws and education are a bit different from the rest of Canada. All of Canada, outside of Quebec, is governed under "English Law" where judges set precidents? (my spelling is aweful) like in the UK, USA, Australia etc.. Quebec is under "Civil Law" with notaries and the like. Quebec also has very odd language laws. I think they even have a language minister.

Quebecers are the most heavily taxed people in Canada.

You do not have to be a French speaker to live in Quebec, but it would help. Most rural places are French, but there are many towns along the Ontario border that are half, to majority English speaking. Montreal has about 1,000,000 native English speakers. OF the 8 million people in Quebec, I think 5 and half million are native French Canadiens.
