Subject: Thinking about immigrating from US to Canada
I stumbled into this thread when searching for information. I´ve been on the Canada government site...but when I got here, it all seems so complicated!!! Can someone give an outline of the real process...not just what the official site says? What can disqualify you in the medical exam? Does bad US credit matter? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

What can disqualify you in the medical exam?
Applications for permanent residence will not be accepted if that person?s health:

is a danger to public health or safety; or
would cause excessive demand on health or social services in Canada.

Does bad US credit matter?
NO

Expert's Advice (in reply to: Thinking about immigrating from US to Canada) (in reply to: Thinking about immigrating from US to Canada)
Hi Rachael,

I have a specific question. My brother is a US citizen, and his profession is a Truck driver. He has a commercial US license, and he is willing to immigrate to Canada, i.e. become a permanent resident.

If he goes to the Canadian goverment site, the closest immigration category for him would be "skilled worker". As I am married, I do not think I can sponsor him if he goes through the "family category". Besides he does not need financial support.

I know that he would not have any problem getting the job here as a truck driver, but that profession is not on the NOC list of occupations. So, looks to me that the "standard way" of applying simply does not work for him. What would be the best option for him, in your oppinion?

Thanks a lot for ofering your advice.
