Subject: Request for advice on post-medical timeline
I have completed my medicals and submitted additional documentation which Buffalo received today. From the yogi799 site, it seems some people get passport requests in 1-3 months, while others take much longer.

Does anyone have any advice as to how long I may need to wait for the passport request?

Here is my timeline:

Application: August 2004
AOR: October 2004
IA: May 2005
Medicals: June 2005
Docs: June 2005

Thanks for your help.

Hi Tim,

After IA Buffalo starts the background and security checks. You will get passport request after the checks are complete which may take a couple of months to well over a year.

The background check is done (not in every case) to see if the applicant actually performed the work that s/he claimed and a check of the educational credentials.

Security check is conducted completely outside of Immigration by Canadian security and intelligence agencies, with or without cooperation of proper authorities in countries where check is being conducted. It is looking deep into your life, background, activities, associations etc. to find out if you are or ever were involved or are or have been associated with someone who is or was involved in espionage, terrorism, radical movements, crimes against humanity, organized crime, etc.

Security check has absolutely nothing to do with FBI fingerprints - those are only needed for criminal check.

Unfortunately authorities in some countries take months or longer than a year to reply to inquiries from Canadian authorities and in some countries check has to be done using old fashion spy methods. It all takes time and depending from your background, nationality, countries you lived in, people you associated with (knowingly or not), your activities etc. it may take anywhere from several months to well over a year to conclude.

yeah wait for about 10 weeks... Thats a ideal time...

I did my Medicals on 13th January 2005 and I got the PP request letter dated 7th April. So that like 11 weeks...

And then I sent the PP by mail to Buffalo on 29th May and it came back to me on the 15th June. so another 3 weeks...
