Subject: Application Completion : Please help
  Hi All,

I need your help in completing the PR application form.

1. In the forms, Schedule 1 -Background/Declaration, for questions

a.# 10 : Education
b.#11 : Personal History
c.#15 : Addresses

I am not able to fill in all the requested details in the space available. For eg. for the education table there are only five rows. I need six rows to complete my schooling from elemenary till my Master´s degree.

I was planning to not fill anything in the form except for a statement - for eg. for Q#10. " PLEASE REFER TO THE ATTACHED DOCUMENT FOR EDUCATION DETAILS" and add a sheet with the form name, question number and the requested details.

I wish to know is it a correct thing to do or would be considered a violation by the Immigration Officer as I do not find anything explicit in the application filling guide to this effect. I only find that there is a reference that states

"Attach a separate sheet of paper if you need more space and indicate the number of the question you are answering."

I do not know how to interpret this statement. Should we fill partial information in the space available in the application and provide reference to additional sheet for the details that cannot be completed or would it be correct and acceptable to refer to attached sheet for all the details without any information in the form.

2. Similarly, in the form "Schedule 3 - Economic Classes - Federal Skilled WOrkers"

for the Question # 11.Your work experience,

I am not able to fill all the duties in the column "Main duties".

In this case, is it acceptable to say something like "PLEASE REFER TO THE ATTACHED DOCUMENTS FOR THE MAIN DUTIES OF THIS OCCUPATION." and with a separate sheet detailing all the columns for the question # 11.

As I believe this section is key and critical for the skilled worker application to be successful, I am worried whether we should atleast summarize the main duties in the space provided and make a reference to an additional sheet for more details on the main duties.

I request all your help to advise me on what´s the correct thing to do. If you were in a similar situation while filing the application please share your experience.

Thanks very much in advance.

don't worry, be happy (in reply to: Application Completion : Please help)
sean_71, put yourself into the officer sit : tell him where to find the information he is looking for into the available space of the question. That is, refer to a separate sheet, as it is perfectly acceptable and advised for a clarity perspective. The most important point is to feed them with the information they are asking.

I don´t think they have an automated system that scans the forms. So no error will arise from the incompleted questions of the form. I think they just read the form and when finding the reference just look for it and read it. If I´m wrong on that point please feel free to correct me.

We are completing our application as well, and wondered the same things. Our solution was to fill out the space available, and on the last line of each question we added "Please refer to attached document...". We are then including an entire list. I figure that way they can get a quick oversight, and refer to the complete information as they see fit. I think Vince is right; try to see it through their eyes. This application is at least as important as a job application; the more information and the better organized it is, the easier it makes their job and the quicker it can be processed (at least, I hope! :)). Good luck!

sean_71,

It´s okay to apply extra sheets for further details. What I did also was to create a cv/resume, with education, detailed job descriptions, positions held etc. and hours worked at each job. Make sure that the dates and titles on your CV/Resume correspond with what you write on your application and what your reference letters/job contracts indicate. The resume offers a good picture of your work/education history. Keep resume no more than two pages long, (otherwise you might bore the immigartion officer to death.) Just don´t forget....what ever does not apply to you on the forms, DO NOT LEAVE BLANK. Just write N/A!!!!

Hope that helps...

Application format (in reply to: Application Completion : Please help)
I agree that it is impossible to put all the details on the form. I believe you should refer to attachments, but number each attachment separately (1,2, ..22, etc.) and put a divider tab to make it easier for the evaluator to turn directly to the proper attachment (you can find pre-printed tabs at any office supply store).

If it makes you feel any better, my application had 17 attachments.

I echo the earlier comments, use common sense and put yourself in the evaluators position in deciding what you can do to make your information clearer.

Good luck with your application.

Organizing the application/documents: Please help (in reply to: Application Completion : Please help)
Hi All,

Thanks very much for all your help and suggestions. Your inputs have been very helpful for me in completing the application.

Hi Tim,

Could you please help me understand on how you named the various attachements.

I was wondering how to organize the application and the associated documents.

For eg. I believe it would be ok to name the additional documents I am adding (for eg. to details on address, personal history etc) as Attachment "X" and cross reference in the application form.

However, as we have to attach lot of supporting documentation (notarized photocopies), is it correct to write on these as well as attachments "Y" etc and create Table of Contents.

I wanted to know how you handled this, as you had 17 attachments with the application.

Please help. Thanks very much in advance.

Thanks

in-canada or outside-canada? (in reply to: Application Completion : Please help)
I´ve been living in Canada for 3 years with my wife who is a canadian citizen. I´ve not yet applied for PR mostly beacaus of the cost and confusion. First I need to decide how to apply. Being that I live in Canada do I apply in-Canada status or is it better to apply outside canada? It worries me that there is no right to appeal if I use the in-canada form and I have heard that the process is quicker if you use the outside canada form. help??
