Subject: Information on Background Check
O.K. after some search here is some information in numbers that I found at the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service (CSIC), the body entrusted with conducting background checks.

It is a long page and can be located at:

http://www.csis-scrs.gc.ca/eng/operat/ss_e.html

However of interest to applicants is:

... Over the fiscal year 2003-2004, the Service received some 44,907 requests for Immigration Screening from within Canada (including RDP) and issued 46,183 security clearance assessments. Additionally, the Service received some 24,243 Immigration Screening applications from outside Canada and 4,646 from the United States for a total of 73,796 immigration cases. The median turnaround time was 42 days (through the Electronic Data Exchange Program) for requests from within Canada. Under the Overseas Program, our Security Liaison Officers were consulted on 4,814 cases...

Analysis:

Only relevant information is the mention of Median (the central most entry - not average), turnaround time for application from within Canada is 42 days. So it means applications filed from within Canada as have a more likeliness to complete BG Checks faster than filed outside.

I tried to locate similar figures for applications at Buffalo, but did not waste more time. If anyone can go over this web-site and find please post. That shall be of use to most of forum users.

Thanks,

I´m impressed. The Govt. of Canada has a lot of information posted online for public. It is only spread out and one needs to search. Here is more information on what exactly they are checking for in immigration case screening.

That´s weird, 45.000 + 25.000 indepth security/background checks out of the 200.000 + immigrants.That´s less than 35% they actually give a real background check.

I think it´s based on profile of the applicant with some unlucky percentage selected for the same. The numbers reported by this agency clearly does not match anywhere close to the total immigrants Canada takes each year. But still 70K odd applicants is a huge no. I think a total of about 220K applicants are processed for immigration each year.

A 100% check of all applicants is just impossible - that will throw the immigration process back-logged for years!!
