Subject: Medical
  Hi
I am in early stage of application. I cannot find any information about the medical which is the very last thing. Can anyone tell me where to find the details of the medical exam requirements because one can take these tests earlier to be sure. better than wait to the very end.
Thank you,

These are the steps for a typical immigration file:

1) APPLICATION:
You send the application and start the proceedure

2) RECEIVE AOR: (Application File no.)
Usually we get the file no. within 1 to 6 months depending on the CIC office.

3) WAITING PERIOD:
Can range from a few months to few years

4) INITIAL ASSESSMENT(IA):
This will be a preliminary assessment by the CIC they will ask you for an interview or they may waive the interview

5-A)INTERVIEW REQUIRED:
If the interview is required they will give you a date and location. They may also transfer your file from one CIC post to another CIC office (Transfer mostly happens in the US cases)

5-B) INTERVIEW WAIVED:
This is a good news... If the Interview is waived they will send you forms for Medicals which you have to take to the designated medical practicioner(DMP) and get medicals done.

6) ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS:
This happens along with the interview or if the interview is waived it happens along with the request of medical examination. Usually they want to check for last three months of financial documents(Bank statements). Employment papers etc.
They generally ask for:
- FBI clearance (if you have been more than 3 months in US
- RCMP Clearance (if you have been in Canadafor more then 6 months)
- Bank statements(last 3 months)
- Employment papers

7) PASSPORT REQUEST:
If all is well then again wait for about 3-4 months and you will get the passport request. Send the passport via mail or go in person and get it stamped.

--------------------------------------
POST VISA ISSUANCE

8) VALIDATION OF VISA:
Once you have the visa it is valid for one year from the date you took the medicals. So for example you you took the medical exam on 1st July, 2005 then the visa is valid till 1st July 2006. You have to enter Canada withing that time. If you dont hen you ahve to retake the medical exam and get a new visa.

9) ENTER IN CANADA:
When you enter in Canada, you have to show proof of funds. For a single person it is about $9800.

When you enter Canada. you ahve to fill up some forms and they will prepare the PR (Permenent Resident) Card for you. This card will be mailed to you within 3 to 6 weeks.

================================
So this is the main proceedure for anyone looking for immigration under skilled worker.
These are general steps... It may vary a bit here and there... but it runs along these lines.

Once you are in Canada then you have to get the SIN (social Insurance Number) from the HRDC (Human Resource Development of Canada) and allpy for a HEALTH CARD and all other stuff... I guess you dont have to worry about that right now... it is to be done later once you are in Canada. Once you come here you will be guided about it.

Anyways... Good Luck with you application...
Guys... if you ahve anything else to Add do so... I hope I am not forgetting any important thing here...

Cheers,

Well to point out , AFAIK the visa is not renewable!
You can retake the medicals only if the background check took around or more than a year..

you don´t get me.. I mean what are exactly the tests conducted by the CIC approved doctor so you can try them on your own early to know exactly if you have anything that could cause medical inadmissability, may be 2-3 years later.

You know what I mean... What does the medical examination consist of? x-ray, blood test.. etc. and what conditions can cause inadmissability?

Thank you!

Details of medicals (in reply to: Medical)
Very fair question. I just had my medicals done. They seemed to focus alot on blood pressure.

The instructions for the doctor filling in the form can be found at:

www.cic.gc.ca/english/pub/dmp-handbook/appendix-09.html

Good luck.

Details of Medicals (in reply to: Medical)
Thank you v. much Tim, this was useful, but do you know if it is possible to download these forms somewhere, or you only get them when immigration decides.

Kind regards
Maria
