Subject: In Need of Advice
I have a lot of questions to ask and many of them are technical questions about legal actions and such. I´m an Alaska, moved here to Canada and married a Canadian, but the marriage is crumbling. I plan to divorce him and return to Alaska for support from my family. I want to return to Canada, but I´m wondering about what legal actions need to made inorder for me to return.
I had started the citizenship paper work as a spouse beings sponsored by my husband, but I haven´t sent the paper work in because I want a divorce and the paper work would be useless as far as I know.
I guess all I want to know is if anyone can give me a website that will help me thru this or a phone number for an immigration office that can answer my questions about returning to Canada as a worker, visitor or otherwise... because I still would like to become a citizen or perminant resident even though I have no relatives here, just friends.
If anyone can help me find out more about what I can do, please let me know.
Thank you!

are u a permanent resident yet ? (in reply to: In Need of Advice)
I did not understand someparts of your message. you are staying here in canada as what ? are you on a visitor/student visa ? or
Are you a permanent resident of Canada yet ? I mean do you have a pr card yet ? if you are a permanent resident of canada then you can go out of the country and still come back to canada no problem. otherwise if you leave you cannot come back without getting a visa. as for applying for citizenship. you need to have lived in canada for I think 3-4 years consecutively (deduct time when you were out of the country) before you can apply to be a canadian citizen.
you can go to this website to learn more on immigration and citizenship http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/
also you can call them on this number

For information on citizenship and immigration
1 888 242-2100
(in Canada only)
For information on the Permanent Resident Card (PR?Card)

if you divorce and have not completed any formal sponsorship process (meaning PR status being granted by CIC) then you will be leaving Canada with no status. Once you are back home with your family, you have the option of applying for Canadian immigration as a skilled worker. there is lots of information in this forum and on the cic website about how you qualify and what steps must be taken. It is about a 2 year process (am I right guys?)

sorry to hear that your relationship is not going well.

Thank you for your replies.
I believe my status would be as a visitor because I wasn´t given any documents when I entered Canada by car from Alaska.
I have a student visa that expires May 2006. I first entered Canada August of 2002 and I´ve been out of Canada a total of about 180 days since then. Would I be able to apply for a PR Card?
I would like to make sure that I can return to Canada before I leave, but if it takes too long to figure out how to accomplish that, I´m going to just go back to Alaska (where my family is) because I can´t stay here with my husband anymore. The situation is getting more and more agrivating.
If anyone has any answers for me or can help me by offering any advice... I will gladly take it with much appriciation.
Thank you!
Cassie

Cassie kick that son of a gun in da nutz and set him straight. How about family counseling or community or church groups? Can you seek some help at the same time as you explore how to return? It maybe worthwhile. But if you have to return to Alaska, just live there... I have a great wilderness flick about Alaska and it ought to be a great place to live. Just hang out in Alaska, I am planning a trip across Canada and eventually drive into Alaska too... In a few months. And take it easy..

lol
I don´t want to stay in Alaska... I grew up there... I know what it´s like. I want to stay here in Canada. I´m not interested in trying to fix the relationship with my husband because it wont ever work. The longer I´m with him, the more I hate being near him.
I think my best bet would be to go home for a visit... maybe work a little... return to Canada as a visitor... get a work visa to support myself... send the citizenship paper work in and get the divorce once I´ve got my citizenship and go from there.
I see no other way of doing it. If anyone else has any ideas, please... let me know. Just don´t tell me I need to try to fix this relationship.
Thanks for all your advice!
Cassie
