You are welcome!
When you receive your visa, you also receive a document
called Confirmation of Permanent Residence(COPR)in several
copies. You need to have this with you at the port of entry.(as I mentioned elsewhere). This form includes all your information and your picture. Do not fill out the empty spaces and do not sign this form. At the port of entry, the immigration officer will check all the information on this documents, ask you questions, check your passport and visa, sign it and finally ask you to sign this form. You will receive one copy as you receipt. Please keep this paper in safe place until you receive your PR card.
In the mean time, you can use this documents with your visa
and passport together to apply for SIN and other things.
As to the list of personal items: I just typed everything
in Word format, grouped together related items (using subgroups; clothes,Books, personal, medicine, etc.)and detailed description under each subgroups. It this way, I eliminated several questions I had to answer otherwise.
Regarding money: You will be asked to fill out the custom
declaration form (the standard form). If you have $10,000
or more with you, you will be reporting it on that form
among other things. I don´t see there is any problems with
having traveler´s check with you. I would think that would
be considered as cash. I would not carry more than few hundred CAD with me. Remember, you can use your credit cards and your ATM cards anywhere in emergency cases.
I am sure you can have an access to your bank accounts somehow in Canada. I checked with my bank in SF and found out that I could use my ATM in Canada and receive cash
in American or Canadian dollars.
You do not spend any money at the port of entry. Of course,
you need to get a taxi or shuttle to your hotel. Or if you need to have a cocktail!

Good luck!
