| Subject: AIP within Canada - how long? |

I´ve applied for PR in Canada (common-law sponsorship) and CIC received my application on Dec.31 2005, started processing it March 14 2005. Knowing processing times are 5-6 months now, I was hoping to get any decision or AIP around end of May. I called their called centre today and they told me it´s actually 5-6 months since March 14!!! I couldn´t believe it. This is not what I was told by them before, and from other people´s experience it looked like it´s from the date of receipt not start processing date. Does anyone know? I am so frustrated right now knowing that I won´t be able to apply for a work permit for another month and a half or so....

hi, I too appied for PR in Canada (common-law sponsorship)on 23rd of December 2004. They started processing my application March 08, 2005. At the moment they are working on applications sent on December 13 2004. So we have about a week to two weeks before we hear anything. Who knows, it may be longer. I was under the impression it was from the date you sent your application that they start counting the 5 - 6 month period. And going by what applications they are working on now, it seems correct. it takes 90 days after the start to process your application. It can be less time than 90 days.
