My fiancee just received her acceptance letter in the mail today. We applied under the conjugal partner category. Don´t let the confusing wording in the application guide confuse you..fiance(e)s ARE eligible under the conjugal partner category, provided you have been together for at least one year, etc.

Sent application to CPC Mississauga - mid Oct 2004
Sponsorship application processed - 1 Dec 2004
Sponsorship application approved - 1 Dec 2004
PR application received by embassy in Vienna - 17 Dec 2004
Acceptance letter received - 31 May 2005

We got ZERO correspondence, notices, and/or hints during that long slog from December to May. 6 month wait exactly..which is the 70% point according to the statistics for Vienna. e-Client still says "In Progress".

She came to stay with me whenever possible. We have been together for nearly 3 years now, so just over 2 years when we submitted the application. She lived with me during the 6 months she was allowed to stay here.

We were unable to live together, because I had no Austrian residency, and she had no Canadian residency. We have maintained a long-distance relationship between visits, with daily ICQ/MSN/e-mail/SMS/telephone. I provided proof of the relationship with letters from family, pictures at social engagements, airplane tickets, etc. We had been saving up those momentos for just this reason...

BTW, I´ve been using Packet8 VoIP for months now for long distance to Europe..works great! Unlimited long distance to Europe, it was well worth it..definitely helped pass the time! Long distance within Canada is a little shaky though...

tough wait eh? nice to know they are looking positively at your kind of long distance relationship. With all the hassles of visitors visas etc. it is becoming so difficult.

I hope all goes well for you.

I included photocopies of plane tickets, used long distance cards, photographs of the two of us together, concert tickets, and basically anything that showed that we had spent significant time together. I also included letters from my father and her aunt, both declaring that they knew of the relationship and our intentions to live together in Canada.

I also included a personal letter explaining our situation, including the fact that we were engaged. The CIC forms go to great lengths to say that fiance(e)s are ineligible, and that you should marry first, but they don´t really mention that you can still qualify as a conjugal partner even if you are engaged. Have a look at the OP2 manual for some really helpful hints on what they are looking for:
