Well, if you mentioned in your app that you are going to carry some funds then you must carry some cash (though not essential in spousal case).

Officer may ask - if you are carrying funds.

It may actually be best for candidate; when you enter Canada the first time you are entitled to carry funds, items without tax, duty etc. Later entries may be subject to tax with-holdings, duty etc.

I think in the case of spousal, the nned for funds is not a requirement....it does help to have money but I do not think it is necessary.
My spouse did not have to write on her application if she would be carrying money.
I know for Skilled workers you have to have a certain amount, I think $10,000.

Show money for Provincial Nominees (in reply to: does sponsered person need to bring money?)
Hi Guys,

How about the Provincial Nominees?, which have their "Declaration of Support" from their relatives in canada. Does anyone have an idea if they also need to show some money at the Port of Entry? Your reply is highly appreciated.........

Best Regards,

Bravo2

This is just for your information. I sponsored my husband and we landed in March. We only went on holidays for 2 weeks to activate the visa and then returned home to Switzerland. After reading a lot in the forum about what to bring when you land, we decided to take a copy of our bank statements to show that we have money. Our landing airport was Toronto and the whole procedure took 10-15 minutes. The officer never asked us for any proof of funds. As answered above, you do not have to bring a certain amount of money when landing. However, it does state the following on the CIC site:

*You must also bring with you enough money to cover living expenses such as rent, food, clothing and transportation for a six-month period. You may be asked to show proof of your funds.

Good luck!
