Subject: Visitor Visa question- Please advice
  Hello,

I have applied for PR to Canada last year. Before the PR is complete, I have to go to Canada to have my US H1B papers stamped. My USA student visa expired but now i have the petition papers for USA H1B visa. Will it be possible to get a temporary visitor visa to Canada in order to go to the Toronto US consulate only to get my H1B visa stamped on my passport.
I know that people have done this in the past. The thing I would like to know is that if my earlier student visa has expired, will Canada give me a visitor visa just to go to the US consulate?

Thank you for your help
Hema

I dont know about the question you asked but before u plan on going to Canada for stamping,do cross check that you will be able to get H 1B stamped there!

I heard that for first US H1B stamping ,one needs to get it from the home country.

So double check on that.

I was also on F1 visa in USA and got my H1 B stamped from Toronto, Canada. You can do that without a problem. But keep in mind that if they reject your H1 stamping in Canada you will have to go back to your home country to apply for H1.

As far as getting visitor visa(TRV) to Canada for the purpose of stamping H1 visa I believe it should not be a problem. You have to take an appointment in the US embassy before you go for the H1 visa. Take the interview letter with you when you go for TRV. Also make sure that when you apply for the visitor visa you mention your PR application.
