My spouse has a relative living in Canada, who is already a canadian citizen. My spouse is not coming with me so she will be a non-accompanying spouse under my application. I heard from a friend that I, the principal applicant, cannot earn the 5 pts since my wife is non-accompnying? Anybody who has idea about this?

That is correct.
Relatives are the principle application´s direct relatives
