I have filed for immigration in April 2003 and my file shows that it is ?In Process? since June 2003.
The first step took place within the normal standards (processing time) and in May 2004 I undertook my medical exams.
I live in Canada as a student so I took a summer vacation after I finished my medical exams for visiting my parents and family in my home country.
Meanwhile, I received two letters that needed to be filled and resent to the immigration centers; which as you could tell had to wait till I came back from my break. These papers were completed and resent to their appropriate destinations by the first of September 2004 (one was related to my medicals and the other a document to be filled for Buffalo); and since then I haven?t received any information concerning the status of my application.
My only recourse is to the online services that Immigration Canada offers and which shows very little information concerning the status of the application (without even showing when that information was updated). which always shows "In-Process".
I even faxed the Immigration centre (Buffalo) almost 4 weeks ago without even getting an answer back.
Could anyone help me please...what´s wrong? what should I be expecting? what should I do? I´m getting really frustrated...

Security checks can take a long time, and they start after medicals.
Asking for your CAIPS notes might not be a bad idea in your case.

You can get your own CAIPS notes for free under the Privacy Act as you are living in Canada. Please search this forum or the internet for the procedure.
Basically you will have to write a cover letter saying that you need your CAIPS notes under the Privacy Act, provide proof of residence in Canada (Visa) and fill in a form. You will get the notes in approx 30 days.

but from your personal "experience" what could you tell?
what do you expect is the problem?
and by the way...you think my medicals will expire in May 05? or in September 05...since the last thing they asked for was sent to them by September 04.

zfreddyzzz if u r chinese it may take longer time for background check...how many countries u have lived in before also matters.

Thank you guys for all the concern you showed.
it seems we all know how frustrating it is ... waiting and waiting...
I have already prepared a package to order the CAIPS..and will be mailing it tonight or tomorrow (I included the request form, a cover letter and a copy of my current status in Canada)...
Robinhood....I guess my situation is worse than being a chinese...I´m Lebanese...I don´t know if this makes it more complicated...
I heard one thing is that the CAIPS are not easy to read...you need to decypher them..is that true?
any more "suggestions" or comments about my situation other than ordering the CAIPS???

Similar situation. I completed my medicals and other doc submissions by Nov 2004.
I sent a fax for information last month and finally got a reply stating that background check is on and may take upto 6-9 months!!
so I guess just wait for them to complete the check.
