Would it be possible if you are still living outside canada and open a bank account in Canada? How? I am in the Passport Request stage.

Hi there, I too had asked the same question a few weeks ago. There is a response by a poster named "Saleh" who knows more about this. He advised me on this too.

He has opened an acct with Royal Bank of Canada, online, even before landing in Canada. He came here and then completed some more formalities, I suppose.

May be do a search too (in this forum).

Best of luck.

Here I am.

Yes you can open it through many bank. However,I have done it through RBC. email me on salehsaleh@link.net and I will send you the application I have got from them. It has fullinstructions and a list of required documents. It is very simple and takes no time to get.

Good Luck

When I was on a weekend trip in Vancouver I visited all the banks. CIBC is the one that seems to have no fees. That´s good for now since I won´t be using the account really - just to make deposits.
I opened at Canadian Dollar Account (Premier Growth Acct)
and also a US$ Account.
All I needed was a passport (I used my US one) and another form of ID (I used my US Driver´s License).
They give you a banking card on the spot and have free online banking.
I don´t know if it´s the best bank out there - but other banks are charging anywhere from $4.00 to $20.00 per month to have an account.
I am paying nothing and have no minimum balances.
