Subject: The finger pointing game, the top 10 lists & misc.
The postings have really got very interesting lately, I´m really happy to see such a variety of experiences being posted to spell out OR to hide the truth. As someone has rightly said, everything that you need to know is on the govt. websites (well, almost everything) I personally feel that the Canadian govt. has done a good job in listing out the so called "stats about immigrants" and the need for "certification" or "Canadian experience" etc. Immigrants just need to read more, find out from friends, relatives, friends of relatives, "monkeys" (if I may say so after reading some recent activity), or for that matter any person who has "physically" been to Canada in order to form his/her opinion on the topic of immigration before jumping into discussions.
For people with good experiences in Canada - well, there is no place like Canada !!
For the ones who are struggling in Canada - well, Canada sucks (in most cases) !!

Its good to see people trying to google and come up with the latest "Top 20" or "Bottom 20" lists on Canada, but don´t just post them, check if the article is just 300 years old or if its really from yesterdays newspaper, and of course don´t forget to mention the source. Any relevant and authentic information or independent study is welcome.

The following is pertaining only to skilled immigrants....

Although a "better" way of live is very important in the long run, most of the immigrants (the average Joe skilled one, and not the ones who come to Canada because their families can be safer, or escape execution in their homeland ) have the important concern of supporting their family immidiately without having to change professions, in other words find a familiar "JOB". (hey, I´m trying to reduce the number of uncertainties once you land in a different country. Immigrating itself is a big change, you no longer have the "home court" advantage. )

And in most cases, skilled immigrants are coming to Canada, not because its the best place in the world (It actually might be, but that is not what I´m discussing about here) but because, maybe Canada is the only country allowing them "IN" according to some magic number of total "points" that they can add up to. (Its sad, but true. Its deep down in everyone´s mind, but no one wants to admit it !)

If someone sells me a hotel room for $50, I´ll decide before I pay the cash if I can afford it or not. (we always try to get the best room we can get for the cheapest rate that we can afford right ?) Once I check in, if they say, oh by the way there is a $10 per day resort fee on your room too.... (hidden charges, that were on the fine print that you never bothered to look at when you booked it, as it was bloody 4 pages long. who´s gonna read that ??) @#$%%$%.... that is when your vacation starts getting sour.... ok, its just an example !

I think all the frustration will end if people read more, get more info out there etc. As many have already found out (maybe in the hard way) that you "Always" have to read the fine print. So the beautiful peaks, the hospitality, the people, the stats etc might sound very tempting on CIC website, but why stop there, also read sections on things to do for new immigrants and the first few months in Canada, get in touch with R-E-A-L-I-T-Y.

Personally, I would definitely suggest that the Canadian Govt. should make improvements towards "certification" of educational qualifications for immigrants, maybe allow the immigrants to do it outside Canada "before" they land, even at the applicants expense if necessary. I feel having to spend 2 years in schools to learn the same stuff could be frustrating for 35-40 year olds. I´m ok with that though, "only" if all top 5 lists in skilled degree universities in the world are within Canada, in that case they would have a point that everyone can see clearly.

On the Canadian work experience though.... well I don´t think taking that outside Canada would be a good idea.... LOL !!

And for that matter this forum has come out very well in recent times in shedding light on similar issues.

Lets be done with the Top "whatever" lists and move on to "I am an immigrant in Canada, and this has been my experience" kinda posts.
