Sharon does bring up an important point with regard to getting a Green Card.

The word ´Eligible´ does not necessarily mean ´gauranteed´.

I am aware of the difficulty in obtaining the Green Card.

Because of this, I have tried for 2 years to get the H-1B visa.

I could have started my job last year on a J-1 visa, but I decided to wait a year for the H-1B.

Why?

Because doctors on J-1 visa CANNOT get Green Cards!

So I waited for the H-1B.

I have already done a lot of research into how an H-1B doctor can get a Green Card, and it seems the best way is to be completely geographically flexible and agree to go an work as a doctor in a rural area of the U.S.

This way you can get a Green Card under the NIW (National Interest Waiver).

I KNOW, I KNOW what you are going to say. Something like "Haha you will stuck in some small town where cattle outnumber humans, haha"

But I figure, hey at least I will get my Green Card and will be working in my profession.

It´s waaaaay better than me driving a taxi up in Toronto.

Good luck to all.

I am very sure if you had been willing to make the same efforts and sacrifices in Canada, you would be working in your profession a long time ago.

good luck to you.

I tried everything humanly possible for 4 years in Canada
and I got nothing.

How much longer should I try?

You want me to be living off of one meal a day for another few years?

no thanks

you say that you have lived in Canada for 20 years. where did you obtain your education? 20 years ago it was much easier than it is now to transfer your skills. I find it hard to imagine that you spent 14 years out of your profession and you can walk directly into a job in the US???!

your story is very confusing. whatever. hopefully, this change in your life will give you the life you are looking for.

am I to understand that you chose a foreign medical school that was not recognized in Canada? why would you make such a decision on purpose? You were in Canada and had all the information available to make a choice that would guarantee you employment in your chosen profession.

you cannot blame immigration policy on this one!

Hey CIC you should become a veternary doctor instead of regular one...u will have better chances for Green card in US as well as PR in Canada..

the foreign medical school i graduated from IS recognised in Canada,
but foreign medical graduates have a very low chance of obtaining anything in Canada,

I have read so many success stories from happy immigrants.....your case seems to be all about YOUR failure....things you did wrong....maybe you are not telling us the whole story...20 years is a long time.....you could not do anything in 20 years....you must be slow...... and not going to a Canadian medical school was probably a big mistake..... your school may be recognised in Canada but those who attend a Canadian medical school probably get first crack at the jobs. It is sad but that is the truth. Sometimes the truth hurts.
In many cases when things go wrong we tend to put the blame where it does not belong. Perhaps you should sit back and take stock of your life and see where the blame really belongs.
I am sure it is not all Canada´s fault.

Instead of posting very stupid TOP 10 lists, you should post your own experiences and tell everyone here what YOU did wrong. Maybe give them some advice...dont tell them Canada sucks and they that should not go there....tell them what they could do to try and make a successful life. It seems that 20 years was not long enough for you. Work harder or faster. HELPFUL hints are good.
Haven´t you heard the saying...if you have nothing good to say, don´t say anything.

Good luck in the USA...I am SURE you will have a MUCH better life there.
(did you get my sarcasm?)

at my last doctors visit I asked him about this. He is part of the admissions panel. There are many medical schools (such as south africa) where a doctor can be trained and walk right in to the Canadian system.

however, there are other medical schools that do not have the same standards of admission, nor the same academic standards. just because it is called a medical school does not mean you are a competent medical doctor that is able to work to Canadian standards.

Yes, there are not enough residency spot... but that does not appear to be the problem in your situation. Did you apply to Canadian medical school? If not... why?

Your issues have nothing to do with immigration! why are you bashing CIC?

He is bashing CIC because he can not take blame for his mistakes. He made the decisions and now he has to live with them. It is much easier to blame someone else for our mistakes.

Did he say U.S.? (in reply to: Sharon is actually correct)
Did he say he´s trying out the U.S. on an H1B VISA??? he is indeed stupid ... as a lot of people here have H1B´s and are stuck in the backlog ... you´ll queue up like the rest of us ....

WAIT FOR ANOTHER 20 Years for your greencard ... by that time you will have established your life in the rural hospital and not leave it .. nice plan ..
