Im really really confused..The Buffalo CIC requests these 2 things. The first point is where I am utterly utterly confused. What does this exactly mean. Ive just cut and pasted exactly what Buffalo office says.

1) A copy of our letter requesting that you obtain a Police Record Check (PC-1 letter enclosed). Affix your own name and address label.

2) A full set of Fingerprints from FBI which I totally understand and I already have mailed my FBI FP with my application in Oct 2004, I also got my AOR.

But please let me know what the 1st point means. Thanks much.

I am not 100% sure but I think you have to get that letter and use it to get clearance(a letter stating no police records) from local police stations wherever you have stayed more than 6 months since you were 18, even any countries outside US. Please confirm because as I said I am not 100% sure.

I am in the same boat, and am waiting for more clarification on this forum or elsewhere. One place on the aforementioned site states to wait to get FBI background check, where another says to do it before applying. There is a lack of congruenity. We (my wife and I) are tempted to send in our application, then follow that with FBI background check.
Any thoughts?

I have a feeling what it means is, once you FBI fingerptints are done and in your hands, then go to the local, nearest police station where you reside and then show them that so that they will give you another letter saying there is no police records against this person. Am I right? is this also needed along with FBI fingerprints? Also for sure you should get PCC from any country where you were born or stayed for more than 6 months. Any take on this people..I have sent in just my FBI prints along with my application and gotten my aor as well. CIC has not specifically asked me for this, I dont know and Im not sure

Hey Cool,

You need to submit PCC from US, so if I am understanding your wordings correct you needed to submit the fingerprints to:

Federal Bureau of Investigation,
Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS Division),
Attn: SCU, Mod. D-2,
1000 Custer Hollow Road,
Clarksburg, West Virginia, U.S.A., 26306.

and not send it with your application. And this is where one should submit the Consulates request paper along with your Name label etc.

Quoted from the above website but worth emphasising:

"Processing usually takes between 6 and 8 weeks. The FBI will send the applicant the results of their check by RETURNING their fingerprint card. THAT IS THE APPLICANT´S POLICE CERTIFICATE."

"STEP THREE - SEND THE POLICE CERTIFICATE TO THE CANADIAN VISA OFFICE PROCESSING YOUR APPLICATION."

Any more confusion?

Here´s what I did and it´s very convenient.
1. Printed the PC-1 letter from CIC website & signed it.
2. Went to the nearest "The-UPS-Store" branch in my area. They have free FBI fingerprint cards and can take your fingerprints.
3. Went to the nearest post office, bought $18 money order and sent the papers to FBI CJIS Office in West Virginia.
4. Waited 8 weeks, and received the fingerprint card with "No-Arrest" stamp at the back.
5. Sent the card to CIC.
BTW, I live in California. If you´re on the east coast it will be faster than 8 weeks.
