Subject: Where should i apply for Skilled Worker Imm.?
  Hi all,

I´m a permanent resident of Hong Kong. However, I´ve come to Canada for nearly 8 years (3 years-High school, 4 years-University and about 1 year-Work) since my age of 17.

Now my first question is should i submit my Skilled Worker Class Application to Buffalo, US or Hong Kong? I heard Buffalo is faster than Hong Kong. But i also heard submitting application to a foreign country other than the applicant´s own country will delay the process.

Anyway, what i think is this since i´ve spent so long in Canada, it seems reasonable to submit my application to Buffalo than Hong Kong, don´t you think?

My second concern is as my current work permit will end in August and i must leave Canada by then. Therefore, i plan to submit my application to Buffalo before i leave. I know that if they need me in for interview, Buffalo is where i´ll go and that´s no problem. But what i really need to know is if i can take the medical test in Hong Kong instead of in Canada when they require it? Because i heard Buffalo will only accept Canada´s authorized doctors but the ones in Hong Kong. Is that true? The thing is that if i need to come all the way back from Hong Kong to Canada just to take the medical test is kind of waste of time and money. Thus, i want to be 100% sure whether i can goto Hong Kong´s authorized doctors when Buffalo requires me to provide the medical result.

My third concern is where and how i can obtain a police certificate and clearance in Canada? What are the requirement and procedures?

Thank you so much,

Martin

1) You have option of applying at Buffalo, NY or HK. Buffalo is going to be faster yes but,you will have to travel for an interview (if asked for).

2) Since you mention travelling to Buffalo is not a problem you can surely apply at Buffalo. However as a word of caution application processing times for Buffalo has been changed from an earlier faster 15-18 months to 24-30 months. So weigh your choices between HK and Buffalo.

3) Next, on medicals - that you can take from wherever it does not matter. However you need to go to authorized clinics only which I´m sure shall be there in HK.

BTW,

Do you know you can get another year of work experience? The Canadian govt. announced a 2 year work experience for international students.

So you are in goos shape if you apply to Buffalo as soon as possible. With another year extention you can hope to get your PR in time while staying in Canada itself. Since you have been in country so long with Canadian education your qualification will be fully recognized!!

Thanks for your reply.

Where can i check their application processing time at each location?

Do you think there would be an advantage for me to apply to Buffalo since i´ve been in Canada for this long? Or it doesn´t matter and they don´t care?

Yes i know we can now extend our stay. But too bad i live in Toronto where no extention is offered.

Thanks again,

You can check application processing times at the link below:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times-int/02a-skilled-fed.html

It does not matter if you have been these many years in Canada. Yes, it will "influence", however you must qualify on all points to make it. With your details I think you will make it.

Based on your info it is better you apply to Buffalo as soon as possible.

Hello Martin

Find the nearest RCMP and get you police record , you finger prints must been taken for Immigration porpuses in Canada.

If you have any relative in HK , check if they can ask for your police record , your police record from HK must be translated in english or french for a certified translator and highly recommended to be certified by the foreigner affairs department (Gov. of HK)as well as the Canadian Embassy in HK.

After it , get it mailed to you and send it along with your PR application.

You dont need police certificate from Hong Kong because you never lived there for more than 6 months after you were 18. So you´re in pretty good shape.

And you also don´t need RCMP/ Canadian Police clearance if applying to Buffalo as directed by CIC Buffalo. If need be they´ll advise you later on.
