Subject: sending mail to a PO BOX
In Canada, I was able to send all my mail using Canada´s ExpressPost service to Mississauga CPC´s PO BOX.

My wife from the Philippines was not allowed to mail using a courrier to Manila visa office´s PO BOX. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Some people have had this problem in the past. But it is your responsibility to convince the courier company that the PO Box address is that of a department of the Canadian government.

Courriers usually do NOT deliver to any PO Box address, at least it´s the case in the US. You should ask her to use the regular postal service through a post office to send things to a PO Box. Usually, they have express services, such as the EMS, which can be tracked by a tracking number.

With a bit of persistence DHL will deliver your application from Phils. I know of another guy (Canadian in Phils) who managed it, but he said he really had to debate it with them. I ran into the same dilemma in Korea, but we managed to have ours couriered as well.

I have a feeling your wife showed them the delivery address and they said no, and that was the end of it. Filipinas often have a difficult time asserting themselves in these kinds of situations ? especially if they are from the provinces. I know this because I?m married to a Filipina as well. If she presses the issue by explaining to them that the PO Box is for the government of Canada, she should be able to persuade them. But culturally, this may be difficult for her to do in a country where you generally do as you?re told by people who perceive themselves to be in charge. Does she happen to know her barangay captain, or anyone in her town who holds a position of status? If so, such a person would easily get this done. A 1000-pesos ?tip? is very persuasive if the above doesn?t work. This may sound strange to Westerners, but this is how most things get done in the Philippines.

As a last option, you can try your luck at having it couriered directly to CPC?s street address instead. I read about another guy somewhere on this forum who reports that he successfully pulled this off. I know nothing of the accuracy of this because it?s all third party info, but here is the address he posted:

2 Robert Speck Parkway,
Suite 1200,
Mississauga,
Ontario,
L4Z 1H8.

Best of luck!

CIC manila uses a courier service, call cic manila and inquire the name of the courier service they use. its faster and for sure your documents will get there safely. Also if you are expecting CIC to send you back something i.e. they ask for your passport to put the visa, you can send your passport thru the courier service with a paid return envelop so that you can get your visa/passport faster.
