As far as the official statements go, you have to inform the US border ppl 72 hours ahead. They need your car title. My guess is that they verify if it is real, genuine and/or made up, fake and such. Such verification usually takes 3 days. However, if there is not much traffic and the ppl are in good moods, you might luck out. I am trying to find a FAX number for this one border post I will be crossing in a week and can´t find their phone or fax numbers. The best thing to do is call them, talk to somebody and let them know you are faxing (or find the relevant fax number from the phone call) the TWO sides of your auto title and do it 72 hours ahead. Also let them know you will be there in 3 days. This might avoid delays. Contrarily, if you didnot talk to anyone and did not send your title ahead as required and IF THE OFFICER HAS REASON SUSPECT YOUR TITLE is FAKE, then they will make you wait for 3 days or whatever (until they confirm the validity of your title)... before letting you move on. If you did not send the title ahead, be sure you have enough money and time to hang around the border city till the title is sorted out. That´s what I am going to do if I do not succeed in finding their phone/fax numbers soon. Good luck. And good luck to me too...:)
