Subject: Running for Office in America while applying
This may sound crazy, but how much of a problem could it be if I ran for office as a state representative in my state (USA) while concurrently applying for PR as a skilled worker? I´d be willing to offer this information in my application.

I´d be running as a Green, and completely willing to resign once PR status was granted and landing date arrives. Then again, there´s little chance of winning, but running would push certain political issues important here.

It is hard to just sit here and do nothing. If I got elected, I´d only be in office for two years anyway before having to run again, which I wouldn´t. The timeline takes that long anyway, so why not? Thoughts please.

how do you think your constituents would feel about you having one foot out of the country??? Canadian immigration asks about political activities... are you comfortable that Canada is open to accepting your political perspective? your life, your risk

You should not be facing complications as far as your PR application process is concerned.
BTW, wanting to be involved into politics of more than one country is not a crime - Washington, DC is full of people with the similar point of view.

You are all correct. Sharon, my constituents wouldn´t like my intentions to expatriate. The other respondants are correct that it probably wouldn´t affect my application status. My politics are synonomous with the Canadian NDP, not Greens, but in USA the closest to NDP is a small group of progressive dems and the Greens.

Anyway, I probably won´t bother. Maybe after Canadian citizenship and have been a citizen for six or more years I could run in Canada with NDP.
