Subject: help please
I am a u.s. citizen living in Canada I soon will be having a baby but I would like to know if my child is born in Canada would that make me eligible for dual citizenship?

Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen and if the baby is born on Canadian soil the baby automatically becomes Canadian citizen by natural birth and if choose so an American citizen by parental decent.

the child´s citizenship will not help you as a parent obtaining Canadian citizenship. In actuality, they are currently looking at this situation. There is currently a problem with pregnant Korean women coming to Canada on a vistors visa specifically so that their child is born here.

The child is considered Canadian, and therefore eligable to sponsor their family at some point to immigrate.

Canada is looking at changing the rules.
