Subject: Sponsored is threating me like his servant....
My father is a Canadian resident and he sponsored me to come to Canada, now that I arrived he has started to insult me, and treat me like his servant. I have no one else here in Canada and I have less than 3 weeks here... I would like to know if I can leave my father´s house and go somewhere else with the little money I save from working as a bartender. What would happen if he cancels the sponsorship? Can he actually do that? I made some friends in my job and they told me that I can go with them Toronto.

Am I worried about my residency, what would happen if I move from my father?s house? Am I going to be deported? Can I just send a letter to the immigration office here in Alberta and asked them to change my address?

I hope someone can give me some answers I can stand this anymore...especially because my own father is doing it to me....I apologize for my English.

My advice is to contact a govt. help agency or a non-profit agency. The issue of human exploitation is taken very seriously in west - it does not matter what your ethnic background or status is.

If you have come to Canada as a landed immigrant - your status can´t be taken away. Assuming you are working at a bar - I imagine you are of legal age; so you are free to move out should you choose to. Of course it is nice of your father to sponsor you - however it does not give him a right for exploitation.

On other note; after all he is your father - you may want to talk to him directly before you take these steps.

once sponsored and landed as an immigrant, u cannot be deported, unless u do something unethical or illegal....
also, ur residencey has no problems, even if u leave ur father and start living on ur own! on the contrary, if u happen to go on social welfare, then its ur father who would be in trouble and would have to re-imburse the govt. with everything u took as a social welfare!!!!
anyways, the jist is that there is nothing to worry! if u are legal in every other way, u can do anything u want to!
