Subject: Student Loans |

I am a Canadian citizen currently living in Canada, but I lived in the United States for about 27 years. I went to school and have $26K in student loans. I tried to continue paying after moving here, but have defaulted. In June of 2015 I had a collection agency contact me and once they heard I am in Canada they said there is nothing they can do unless I was able to just pay the full amount due. I never heard another word until October of 2015 when a different collection agency called me about the same defaulted loan and they are really trying to bully me. This loan is from more than 10 years ago and I just want to know what my rights are now that I am in Canada. I´m not saying I will not pay it, but I don´t like the collection agency to have the upper hand. I need to know my rights as far as what information they can ask for and with the exchange rate, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
