Subject: New residency requirement for citizenship
  Hi

I am continuously living in Canada as a permanent resident since 2012. Next year August will be my 3 years in Canada. I like to know that, do I have to meet the new residency requirement (4 years)for citizenship? Is it the new law for those who will come in Canada after the new law passed? Will it affect my application too. Please share, if any one has this information.

Thank you.

Although the bill has passed, there is no announcement yet on the exact date when these changes will be effective. CIC has officially said it will be approximately a year since the passage of the bill... so sometime in June 2015. If that is indeed the case, then yes, you will have to wait for 4 years before you can apply for citizenship. It applies to everybody who hasn´t yet applied for citizenship until then and not just to the new PRs.
