Subject: Living Arrangements
I am in the process of applying to sponsor my Irish partner so he can apply for permanent residency and we can stay together. In the eligibility section for sponsorship it says that we must live together (we’re applying from within Canada). We do live together at this time and have for one year, but my partner has been looking for jobs in the mines which means that he would work away from home. He would have a schedule that would have him away for 10 weeks and home for 3. His name would still be on the lease for our apartment as well. Would this living arrangement work or would I have to go with him?

Cohabiting is far more than just sharing the same bed, having sex etc. it is sharing responsibilities and planning for the future.

Imagine a couple where the applicant works as a Long Haul Truck Driver hauling from B.C. to Quebec. He/She may only be back home for 4 or 5 days in a month.

If your partner is special to you consider seeking out a qualified, experienced counsel to answer your questions in more detail.
