hi there. i got married to a Canadian and we submitted sponsorship documents in June. Still in a process, didnt get yet a sponsor approval.
Got a letter from CBSA to come for the interview. What would be the purpose? i was out of status when we got married.

Interviews are typically requested when CIC either has doubts the relationship is genuine or has other concerns about the application. The fact you got married when you were out of status certainly isn´t a positive. CIC may have concerns you´re using the marriage as a means of remaining in Canada. You should come to the interview with plenty of evidence to demonstrate that your relationship is genuine and ongoing.

@ Melina

You got a letter from CBSA which means they know about your lack of status.

The purpose of the interview would be to order you removed by issuing you an exclusion order for overstaying.

Depending on how long you have been in Canada you may be eligible for a Pre Removal Risk Assessment. If offered that you may be here JUST long enough to have your marriage application approved stage one. Then if all else is good you get to stay here with your spouse.

CBSA does not approve or refuse marriage applications. Their job is to remove people. This is the right answer.

Go to the interview but retain Counsel who know what they are doing.
