Subject: Girlfriends visa?
  Hi,

The current company I´m working in is opening up offices in Toronto and I have been offered the possibility to move there and manage the operation.

After doing som research I have came to the conclusion that there shouldnt be any big problems for me to get a VISA since I have the job offer. (correct me if I´m wrong)

So to the issue/question:

I´m Swedish and my Girlfriend Spanish, we both live and work in Spain.

If I was to move to Canada then obviously that would be together with my girlfriend, would there be any issue with this? and how can you work around it?

I mean I will have a manager position so my income will be enough to support two persons.

Any feedback on this subject would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

David

There is no such a thing as a "Girl friend´s visa".

IF you are in a common law relationship you have to include her in your application so she can be examined and depending on your position and education level, she may qualify for an open work permit.

IF she is just your girl friend, she will have to obtain a work permit on her own merits in order to work in Canada.

Having a job offer is not sufficient. Your offer has to be validated by HRDC and once that process is completed, then you may apply for a work visa from the Embassy in charge of your region.

@DocD

Thank you for the swift reply.

Well there is nothing law-binding between me and my girlfriend.

I dont know the term "common law relationship" as it isnt used here in Europe. would you care to ellaborate?

Another point to consider, she dont really need to get a work permit.

I just want to her to be able to move here and stay here with me until an undetermined time.

She doesnt necessarily need to work.

Krs,

Common law for Canadian immigration purposes = you have physically lived together for a minimum of one full year

Immigrating towards another country requires a quite number of process in which you must take legally so as not to encounter any problems. So, just as what Ken says, you must have the documents required. Though I think, it would be better to be able to have your visa settled first and then you may also work with your girlfriend´s visa after. There are even cases where even married couple are having a hard time managing the documents for their visa if they won´t take it carefully so there would be no problems at all.
