Think at least twice if you want to come to Canada. To give you an example how Canada works:
I parked my car on a street in Oakville, ON. I don´t live in Oakville, I just came to my family here for a few days.
In the 2nd day I received a "PARKING INFRACTION NOTICE" telling me that I have to pay $35.00 to Oakville because I left my car parked more than 3 hours!
There are NO signs on the street. If you are curious: the rule I "broke" is "1984-1, PART III, SEC. 5 (4)(A)".
It is a rule "invented" by Oakville that no stranger can know.
I came in Oakville from Thunder Bay, ON and there is NO WAY I could know a local rule not mentioned anywhere, without signs on the road.
This means: Oakville is a poor town that gets money from strangers using local rules that I cannot know. A civilized way should be to give me a warning and then a parking notice if I don´t respect.
I payed online those $35.00 to help Oakville to raise from poverty but I had to pay extra $1.50 for "handling"!!! Do you have any idea who had also to be helped?
So this is Canada! This is how the budget is raised. Stay where you are and let Canada become an Asian country accepting more and more population from Asia.
I am going back home to Europe now.

Are you kidding? That´s a fairly common law and is usually posted on each road as you enter the city - not on the highway but the actual city road. I know for a fact that it is clearly posted in Oakville. Telling people not to come here because you missed a few signs is a bit ridiculous. Hope you enjoyed your vacation though, Oakville and area is lovely.

Why didn´t your family inform you of their cities Parking By-LAWS maybe you should get your family to pay the $35.00 ticket?

Search Thunder Bay Parking Authority you will find they have the same By-Law.

So ANYWAYS if your flying to Europe have a nice flight.

Dear Cangirl,
I agree Oakville is a lovely area.
I came from 403.
Please tell me: when you go to Paris do you sit and search the complete Paris local laws during the first 3-4 hours?
I want to visit Oakville not to study their local laws. Keep in mind that on that street are NO SIGNS. People coming from other cities or other countries don´t know that Oakville won´t let them park on a street even if there are no signs there.

Dear Roy,
I lived in Thunder Bay for several years and I NEVER payed for leaving my car parked on the street for more than 3 hours during my visits to my friends. Is this because it is "Thunder Bay" written on my car plate?
I payed $35, no problem.
Would you park your car on a street in Sweden for more than 3 hours? How do you know that they don´t have that rule too? Do you park your car on a street if there are NO SIGNS there?

Sorry for the first message and the title. It was too tough. I was really angry.
My mistake, my apologies.

Ignorance of the Law is no excuse. The municipality where I live has the same parking restriction and there are no signs.

If there are no speed limit signs on a stretch of highway in Ontario does that mean you can go 160 kilometers an hour or are you restricted to 90 kilometers per hour by the Hiway Traffic Act of Ontario.

You did pass your drivers exam, correct?
