| Subject: PR - Card renewal - URGENT HELP NEEDED |

I applied for PR renewal in March 2012. In May I checked the status online, and it said application approved,and you will be asked to collect you PR card in four weeks.But, because I did not receive the card by June, I called the customer service, and they said that the application has been sent to the local offce (Montreal) for further verification and that they will contact you; I asked when they will contact me, they said, there is no way he can tell, it could take 6 months to 2 years. I AM SHOCKED. What happened here, I have my vacation planned for September... my tickets will go waste, plus I have to visit my home country soon,becasue my mother is not well.
Please let me know what my options are? The call center agent told me to apply for for returning resident permit in India, but that could take 3-4 weeks at the local embassy, and I will be in India only for 2 weeks. I am very frustrated, and do not know what to do. PLEASE HELP...

Sounds like they have sent your application for further review (likely because they want to verify you meet residency requirements). There´s really nothing you can do other than wait.

If your in the GTA you´re looking at more like three years so get your H&C factors in order.

Hi Arun, this is a surprise. Are you sure you comfortably meet the residency requirements?
The processing time in India for a travel document is 10 days. When I had applied for it a couple of years ago (in Bangalore), it took me just a week.
There is one alternative if you MUST leave Canada now. Do you have a US visitor visa? If so, you can fly back into US and drive into Canada. This can be done using your landing documents - PR card is not required:

If you return to Canada in a private vehicle, such as your own car, you do not need a permanent resident card. You can use your Record of Landing (IMM 1000) or Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292 or IMM 5688) instead. An officer will ask you questions to make sure you meet all of the residency requirements before allowing you to come back to Canada.

Well, that is the think, I meet the requirment comfortably, I am over by 42 days for the 2 year in 5 year test.But seems like it is not comfortable for them. Also, after I became PR, I returned immediately back to US for work, and returned after almost 3 years, was questioned by the immigration agent at the border for about 30 minutes, may be he put some notes on my file, and now they are giving me a hard time at the renewal.
Regarding the return permit, I am just worried, what if they do not issue it in India, I have a job to return to..

Ok, that explains it. You have just managed to meet the requirements. 42 days isn´t much of a margin. Your worry about not getting the travel document is justified. It might trigger similar checks at the New Delhi Embassy. I would suggest not to leave the country at this time.
H & C factors will not be required, as you (albeit barely) meet the residency requirements.

570 days in (any) 5 year period so don´t count your days (in Canada) starting at the same point all the time.
Either way your not going to get another PR card for quite a while. So enjoy the Just for Laughs festival.

I do meet the residency requiremnts, no doubt about it.
But, now that they have send the application for further checks, because I was very near the border line, what are my options to expdiate this? Do you know of anyone else who lives in Montreal, and has to go thru this? how long did it take for the application to process for them? Is there a way to find out the wait time at the Motreal office?
Please let me know, any help is appreciate.
