Subject: How to sponsor my long distance boyfriend?
  Hello,

Can you be considered a common law couple if you are at the moment physically separated? My boyfriend and I have been living apart for 3 years now and I would like to sponsor him without having to get married first.

Has anyone done this successfully? And how? Do we apply as a common law or conjugal partners? He is German and I am Canadian.

Thanks,
D

Forget about conjugal - you don´t qualify. Conjugal is for people who cannot get married and have immigration barriers preventing them from living together to become common law. You face no such barriers.

You have two choices if you want to sponsor your boyfriend: (1) get married; (2) live together for a full year to become common law and then apply.
