Subject: ER applied for LMO without offering a job |

Hi,
I have applied for a job at a canadian company in airdrie in calgary and have virtually been offered it without having the contract in my hands. The company really want me esp as I have my gf living in calgary and they know I will not leave. The job is mechanics based. But the ER has said they are just waiting to receive the LMO back and then I can come out asap. I was wondering if an er can apply for an LMO without proving that I have signed a contract, or if the LMO is specific to the job they are offering. Obviously I will be receiving a contract and the LMO as I will need this when i fly etc.
The ER is also asking for me to get the visa at the border when I come into calgary, which is fine, as I know they can do that, but do I not need a medical? or what problems will i face if i apply at the border?
any comments would be greatly received!!!
Many Thanks
Leon and Carol
