Hello all.
I am an American citizen. My fiance is a Canadian citizen. We are getting married in the USA in September. I currently live with him in Canada while we are awaiting our PR application to be approved. We anticipate 1st stage approval within the next month or so. Once we are married, will we have to contact (inform) anyone that we changed from common law spouses to married? And will this in any way affect our PR application?
On a side note, does anyone know where I can find information on an American and a Canadian marrying in the U.S.? I am having limited success with my searches online. I did come across something that I wanted to confirm that he needs to get before the wedding date..... something called an Affidavit of Marital Status. If so, I need to find out where we can go to complete and process this. Also wondering if there are resources out there that can help me figure out if a Canadian citizen (ordained online) could perform our ceremony legally in the USA (we were hoping for a friend of ours to do it). All searches for this information have brought me to dead ends.
