Subject: Landed Immigrant Status
My wife Gabrielle Levin (nee Yates) was born in England December 3, 1947. She came to Canada in early 1952 with her parents and sisters on the Empress of France we believe. Her father Dr Denis Yates was a doctor in the Canadian army at the time. She was listed on her fathers passport. The family stayed in Canada and became citizens. My wife grew up in Canada and has worked here all her life. She has applied for Old Age Security this year and has been denied because she has no proof of landed immigrant status even though she is a Canadian Citizen, has a Canadian passport and has worked here all her life. Her father and mother died a few years ago. The whereabouts of her fathers passport is unknown. How can she establish her Landed Immigrant status?

She needs to satisfy the OAS benefit officer that she entered Canada early 1952 and lived ever since. In that case, the applicants send in notarized copies of passport pages which bear entry or departure stamps.

Since she was listed on her father´s passport as a minor and the passport is allegedly misplaced or lost, it is essential that she prove that she indeed entered Canada in 1952.

Is there other document(s) that might prove that she entered Canada in 1952?

Did you know that even after the applicants prove their first entry to Canada, they are sometimes required to provide THEIR MEANS OF SUPPORT to present days?
