Subject: foreigner to get a job in Calgary/Vancouver??
  Hi

I would like to ask if it is difficult for one without a valid working visa to get a professional job there?
I have a Australian degree and have more than 5 years of working experience in financial services. I speak fluent English and Chinese. Say if I am not fussy in the job selection, what are the chances to get a job there bearing in mind I go there without a valid pass?

Anyone can share?

Thanks!
Yvonne

you are not allowed to work without a work visa or permanent residency.

Yes - it is relatively difficult. In order to be able to work, you first have to find an employer who is willing to hire you. Once you find an employer, that employer must apply for something called a Labour Market Opinion (LMO). As part of this process, the employer must prove that they advertised the job and were unable to find a Canadian to hire or train for the role. IF the LMO is approved (not all are), you can then apply for a work permit. If the work permit is approved, you can then start working.

Because the LMO + work permit process typically takes months and there´s no guarantee of approval, many employers are quite hesitant to consider foreign candidates for open roles.

Hope this helps.

The chances of getting a job are low, the risk of getting in trouble are high. Your call.

Your employer also has a role in the application process.employer must apply for something called a Labour Market Opinion .. u have to obtain application package. and you should determine if you need a passport and a temporary resident visa.
