  TO ALL

Here are three examples this week of why I say when it is too good to be true, RUN!

These persons hiring these people to assist them with Immigration Applications had to know they were bogus.

***Convicted fraudster faces 149 new charges Acted as immigration consultant; People who took his advice ´may have their status in Canada revoked´

A LOCAL STUNT (in reply to: Why hire an Authorized Immigration Advisor)
Let me tell you an example of another potential scam brewing in a neighbourhood.

This housewife has a brother who works for Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. He is way on the top. Why pay a hefty fee for consultants or lawyers? Funny, you can give applications to her as a conduit and give your phone number, but he will only call you on the phone. The money has not been discussed yet.

There are also many many horror stories about licensed immigration consultants who messed up their clients cases.
In my humble opinion, if you can afford it, go for immigration lawyers not consultants... i know there are a few bad lawyers but statistically, there are much more bad consultants than lawyers really. A lawyer may loose his license (4 years mugging books) versus immigration consultant license (maybe 2 weeks of casual reading of immigration related articles for average person with average intelligence).

BARBARISM (in reply to: Why hire an Authorized Immigration Advisor)
When you submit a letter or any sort of document, do not make an error such as loose.

´Loose´ is not verb, an adjective.

The verb form is to ´loosen´.

Teach them language skills instead of teaching them how to seek out a quality authorized representative.

Yup take the informed advice of Anonymous ***.124.134.110 hire a Lawyer who does real estate, criminal law, corporate law and sometimes dabbles in Immigration Law when money is tight.

There are bad and good in all groups including Chef´s.

The issue here is that these people wanted a miracle and paid dearly for attempting to get a miracle.

They ALL had to know better.

When your hiring anyone to do renovations on your home you will get references and ensure that they are authorized to do the work.

Do the same with any Counsel regardless of who they are regulated by.

Get references of who or whom you are hiring to represent you in your immigration case.

In most cases, Immigraton Lawyers and Consultants when they come to the hearings or detention centres, they just taste like chicken!

Most experience officers just eat consultants and lawyers alive in the hearings and at the end of the day the poor clients end up with less money and back to square one!
Their ratio of "winning" cases(Lawyers and Consultants) is extremely low compared to the amount of people that goes through CBSA and/or IRB on the daily basis.

Do your home work when looking for a "Consultant or a Lawyer". The fact that they are good in some areas of immigration, doesn´t mean that they are good in all of them.

Immigration is such a broad brush. Impossible for most firms to be proficient at everything.

Consultants are poorly regulated and lawyers are not professionally trained in immigration.

You do the math. That being said.... not all of them are bad just most of them.

Now most CBSA Officers know how to find that dress you never declared or the extra bottle of wine. But IRPA LOL!

Most are not even trained regarding the Immigration Act or IRPR.

If 42% of all refugee claimants win then the authorized representatives those persons retained must be doing something right!

If all persons detained never get out where are CBSA hiding them?

Winning PRRA´s are difficult and like DocD says get evidence that the representative who you are considering hiring has experience in your area of concern.

H&C´s are easy if you know what to show.

Some client´s are wanting miracles after submitting spurious claims.

What need to be considered is;

How many CBSA staff thing that the government cares about illegals. ALL! But wait CBSA can´t even find 10 hardened criminals even with the support of the public.

WHY?

Ask DocD

Who is more incompetent?

That being said, 42% approval rate also means that 58% of them are refused.

And only 2% of them make it after the PRRA which pretty much involves CBSA.

I am cannot give you my opinion on the unit in charge of tracking hardened criminals, it is outside of my scope.

Searching for illegal bottles of perfume in a suitcase is one thing but the thing is that customs and immigration work side by side and handled by the same officer in most cases.
No different than Homeland Security down in the US.

Officers are trained to read people, to enforce the law and it happens every single day.

The fact is when someone is looking around for a consultant and/or a lawyer, make sure that is good at what she/he does in that particular area of immigration. Just because is a well known professional in work permits and LMOs, doesn´t mean that it has what it takes for an H&C hearing.

Those are the ones that taste like chicken and it is evident in the first 5 minutes of hearing if they have a chance to win it or the officer just have to get the fork, spoon and knife out of the suitcase to eat him/her alive right there.
