Yes after three months or so. If you have full time job, been residing in Ontario for more than 153 day and have no plan of relocating soon. Yrs you can have the OHIP regardless of your approval or not.I got mine last week Friday, despite my application for Humanitarian and compassionate and PRRA application in Process.

Hey SUE its you again. Oh okay you´ll have to contact any Service Center around you to check if you can apply for it or not. My PRRA is with them in Montreal and my H&C forwarded to Montreal. Where was your H&C decided? was it in Vancouver or other local office?

Thanks @ SUE. I just hope my case will be over soon.My PRRA is almost ten months with the C.I.C. I have a good PRRA though, but hopefully my H&C get decision before then. H&C have little positive expectation. This is crazy man. From Vegreville to EWtobicoke, to Vancouver and now in Montreal. My PRRA from Etobicoke, to Vancouver ....lolz.

Hi, Sue. If your application for Permanent Residency has been approved and if you have the letter from immigration that tells you so, you can use that letter to show your new immigration status as the document from List 1 of the required documents to apply for OHIP... but you must have an approval letter... not just any letter from immigration...
Then along with that letter you need a document to proof that you live in Ontario... (List 2)... this could be many different things... but normally a utility bill, driver´s license, mailed bank statement, etc, and the third document is for support of identity (List 3)... this document is something showing BOTH your name and your signature... example: a passport, or credit card... you will be asked to fill out an application (Registration for Ontario Health Coverage)... go into a full service counter any where in Ontario and process your OHIP card.
Keep in mind that even though you can apply for OHIP, you are not eligible for coverage until you reach 3 months after you became a permanent resident... if you need more information, call ServiceOntario at 1-800-267-8097 ... they can tell you where to go and even book an appointment for you so you don´t have to stand in line... good luck

In 2009, a certificate of immigration medical exam, a letter of employment, a valid work permit and a Principle in approved letter and some identifications are required. Then OHIP will begin in three months until the validity of work permit.
