Immigrants less likely to have job-related training: Report.
This report was made by Statistics Canada, not made up by " my negative attitude".
It is very interesting.
I will quote 2 parts of the write-up :

" The findings back other studies that suggest newcomers to Canada are not reaching their full potential. That´s a concern as the population ages and the country relies increasingly on skilled immigrants to fill the gaps left by retirees."

" Almost half of newcomers who have been in Canada one year or less say they are underemployed, with a third still feeling the same a decade later, according to an RBC poll in June."

There are prove what is really happening, opposite to the arrogant views of Sharon or Roy (" we need no immigrants to survive and just negative ones don´t succed").
I don´t think that anybody arrives here being negative. We start to get negative out of disapointment, after knocking on many doors and getting results that make you feel that it is a useless fight, as the system is set up to favour the born-canadian individual.
I must say that I have seen exceptions to this. However, it is nt what the average immigrant experiences.

Thank you (in reply to: Please read page 30 of the 24H newspaper (today's))
It is very easy to say that for somebody like you that has never experienced moving out of your country. Once you´ve lost everything in your home country in order to make the big move, you realize all what you have lost back home. It is not as easy to go back and start all over, once you´ve lost connections, property, good job, etc.

That´s no longer a secret Vitorelli, but do you think Canadian government would admit it? Never!!! Immigration applicants and landed immigrants are a source of income and taxation. They would use the 0.5% successful immigrants (without mentioning their financial background) as example, propaganda and sugar coated advertisement, and ignore the 60% who failed miserably (who would give a damn - we suck and took your money thank you!). I myself was an immigrant, and a Caucasian, so I didn´t experience the discrimination. However I witnessed a lot of cases in my workplace - towards Asians. Too bad I still have the heart, otherwise I´d act like Sharon - denying ludicrous and evident Canadian-style discrimination all the time.
Good luck to all of you!

Hi (in reply to: Please read page 30 of the 24H newspaper (today's))
It is true! They also make publicity of the "success stories" but they forget to mention that these immigrants were already wealthy when they arrived in Canada.
Myself as a european have not experienced a lot racial discrimination but I have witnessed discrimination against guys from developing countries in my work place. Some of these guys are more talented than the canadian-born people, but canadians can not stand that somebody from a "poorer country" can be smarter than them. This is why they do whatever tey can to put down these guys.
In my case, I have been judged by my accent, even here in Vancouver that supposed to be "one of the most liberal places on earth" according to Sharon´s point if view.
You have to be an immigrant to know what is phony place is about.
Sharon is obviously an arrogant insensitive person.
Roy cares about the money he gets.

arrogant and insensitive... I guess that is why I come here to help, so I can be arrogant and insensitive.

Vitorelli, prove it is your accent that stands in your way and not your attitude.

I have not said hat every time it's been an issue (in reply to: Please read page 30 of the 24H newspaper (today's))
I need to prove nothing to somebody like you. I know what I have lived. Maybe your kind feels so entitled to know it all that they can´t stand the "attitude" of somebody with an accent.

50% of the people I know, live with, and work with have an accent. I really don´t think that is where my problem comes from.

Why has this forum deteriorated to agruing with Vitorelli? No about of arguing is going to convince this individual that perhaps he might be wrong. So lets move on to more legitimate issues that concern those of us who want to immigrate. Much of what Sharon, Roy, Doc et al have to say is good solid advice which, for me, has been quite helpful. This bickering with Mr. V. is of little interest to many of us, I am certain.

The official news is dated 2006. Now, it must definitely be worse - way worse.

Quote:
"Many immigrants leave within the first year of arrival

About 6 out of 10 of those who leave do so within the first year of arrival. This suggests that a large fraction of immigrants who leave choose to do so within a relatively short period of time after arrival."

Future immigrants : DO your research thoroughly. Make sure you see both sides of the coins.

what is not taken into account in this data is how many of the initial applicants had no intention of looking for work in Canada - they landed and left with the hopes that they could work out the details of maintaining their status at a later date.

Status questions are common on this forum and there is no place where this information is accounted for because Canada likes to believe people that want to come here actually show up and try to find work. I think we all know otherwise.
