Subject: Visiting my wife in Canada
  Hi everyone,
Hope someone can help me with this question. I married my wife in Montreal a year and a half ago. We were going to do in country sponsorship but as we were getting paperwork together I had a neck problem where I needed surgery so I returned to the US. I ended up on disability. My wife has in the meantime lost her job and in the end had to apply for govt. assistance. Unfortunately, I know that she can not sponsor me now. because of that. We miss seeing each other very much. Is there anyway I can visit her without being turned away at the border? Also how long after she is off welfare can we apply again for incountry? We have been a couple for over 6 years and there is no way we want to always be apart. Sorry this was so long.
Thanks for your advice.

I would strongly urge you to file an Outland application so there is an option for appeal should something go sideways. Besides, it goes much faster. Once she is off assistance, and can prove she has a job, she can start the application process.

I highly doubt you are going to be allowed across the border. Your visit will be assumed to be permanent and they would rather turn you back than take the risk.
